The Thermage procedure reduces the signs of aging skin giving you a more youthful appearance. The Thermage procedure is an advanced way of tightening skin that requires only the touch of a sophisticated treatment tip to your skin. It is performed with a revolutionary radio frequency device called ThermaCool TCTM and requires no incisions or recovery time.

ThermaCool is a radio-frequency device that allows for tightening of skin without injury to the skin’s top layer (epidermis). It works by transferring deep, uniform, sustained heat in the tissue underneath the surface of the skin and will produce contraction and tightening of excessively lax skin.

Tightening of skin can be performed in certain key areas on the face or it can be performed on the full face, beneath the chin, and jowl region. The procedure itself can take anywhere from 30 minutes to approximately one hour depending on the size of the area treated. We perform the procedure under a topical anesthetic that is applied 45 minutes prior to the procedure. The patient may also be given some oral pain medication prior to the procedure if desired. The top layers of your skin are protected with a cooling spray while radiofrequency energy heats the collagen in the lower layers. This heating action causes deep structures of your skin to tighten. Over time, new collagen grows to further tighten your skin and produce a more youthful appearance. During the procedure the patient will experience a brief intense heating sensation as the collagen in deep layers of your skin is tightened. To protect your skin and make the treatment more comfortable, a cooling spray is delivered before, during, and after each application of the treatment tip. After the procedure the patient may return to their normal activities. Some slight swelling and/or mild redness will usually occur the evening after the procedure but then subsides by the next day. The patient is required to remain off anti-inflammatory medicines one week prior to the procedure and one week after the procedure, in order to minimize the potential for any bruising.

In most patients, results will be seen gradually over a 3-6 month period, though there are instances where patients notice improvements sooner. We take photos of the areas to be treated prior to the Thermage procedure and at two months, four months, and six months after treatment so that we are able to see the degree of improvement. Some patients will require, or may desire, a second procedure. The second procedure would not be performed until after the six month post treatment evaluation.

The Thermage procedure is a very safe procedure. This advanced treatment has been studied carefully in hundreds of patients with minimal reports of lasting adverse results. The changes made to your collagen structure are permanent.
