Hair loss can be caused by a number of factors, including aging, hormonal changes, or it can even be hereditary. The loss of hair can also be the result of burns or trauma. While hair loss is predominantly found in the male population, females also suffer from hair loss. If you are looking for an effective and permanent treatment for hair loss, hair replacement is a viable option and is available at the practice of Dr. Daniel Rousso, located here in Birmingham, Alabama.
A Birmingham, hair restoration surgeon, Dr. Rousso has performed thousands of hair transplant procedures over the years. The Alabama Hair Institute is located within the Rousso Facial Plastic Surgery Clinic, located at the Mountain Brook Center. Dr. Rousso is “Board Certified” by the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), of which he is one of the founding members, as well as a founding member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). Dr. Rousso is also a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Alabama.
Using the very latest cutting edge technology, Dr. Rousso and staff can create a healthy head of hair by moving wholesome hair from the sides and back of the head to balder areas.
To achieve the most natural looking results with hair transplantation, our practice recently introduced the NEOGRAFT follicular unit hair extraction system. Each follicular unit is extracted using this device once a donor site is selected from the back and/or sides of the head. This area is then shaved prior to extraction, then extracted and transplanted to the recipient site. The days of “plugs and corn row” type transplants are in the past. Today, follicular unit grafts consisting of between 1-4 hairs are used. This technique mimics the hair’s intrinsic growth pattern providing the most natural appearance possible. This procedure eliminates the incision traditionally used with the “strip” harvest method. Both procedures are commonly performed but the NEOGRAFT is our latest addition in hair restoration.
As it is no longer just men who desire more hair density and wish to restore the hairline of their youth, more women than ever are seeking surgical intervention to provide them with thicker hair giving both more overall confidence in their appearance.
Who Needs Hair Transplant the Most?
An ideal candidate for a hair transplant usually:
- Has healthy hair growth at the back and sides of the head for use as donor hair
- Is self-conscious about balding areas
- Has a good understanding of the hair transplantation procedure
- Is willing to wait three months before hair starts growing in again
Many patients have remarked that the discomfort of hair transplantation is not much more than that of going to the dentist. A local anesthetic is used to help diminish any discomfort that may occur which is generally mild and can be relieved with some mild pain relievers.
