What is Rhinoplasty Surgery like?

Nose reshaping can be performed under I.V. or general anesthesia. While the patient sleeps through the procedure under a general anesthesia, I.V. sedation causes a drowsy, semi-awake state in which the patient is extremely relaxed but still aware of the surroundings.

Rhinoplasty in Birmingham usually takes one to two hours or sometimes longer for more extensive procedures. When the surgery is complete, a splint is applied to the nose to maintain its new shape. Also, a special dissolvable suture is used to stabilize the septum, the thin membrane separating the nostrils. That means no nasal packing and less post-op discomfort. Swelling and bruising usually disappear within two weeks. Birmingham rhinoplasty patients are required to refrain from contact sports and extreme physical activity for six weeks. Light, normal activity may be resumed after about two weeks.
