Dr. Rousso – Blog The Benefits of Facial Contouring The older we become, the more it shows in our facial
Facial implants are used to improve and enhance facial contour while providing harmonious balance to your facial features. If you are bothered by a small chin, weak jaw, or “sunken” and tired appearance, plastic surgery with facial implants may benefit your overall appearance. Facial implants are sculpted pieces of silicone or other substances that are placed in the chin, cheeks, jaw, or temples to enhance or augment the physical structure of your face. Facial implants are more long lasting than injectable fillers. Fortunately, Dr. Rousso and Dr. Adams can perform chin, cheek, and temple augmentation using facial implants to create a youthful and more balanced facial contour.
What Are the Benefits of Facial Implants?
Facial implants can provide the following benefits:
- Improved facial structure
- Fuller cheeks
- Correction of hollow temples
- Strengthen a weak jawline or receding chin
- Long-lasting results
- Increased confidence
What Are My Implant Options?
Chin, cheek, and temple augmentation are performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with IV sedation. During your consultation, Dr. Rousso or Dr. Adams will analyze your facial structure and proportions to determine the best approach and appropriate implant type and size for you.
Cheek implants can add volume to the anterior or side cheek regions that may be recessed or flat. During your procedure, an incision is placed inside the mouth just above the teeth to create a pocket. The implant is then precisely placed in the pocket on top of the cheekbone. The incision is then closed using surgical sutures. If another cosmetic surgery is being performed at the same time, your surgeon may insert the implants through those incisions.
Chin implants are placed through a very small incision under the chin within the natural crease (similar to the incision made for facelift surgery). The implant is inserted into the pocket against the bone to provide a more defined jawline and neck with reduced jowls and enhanced chin projection.
Temple augmentation uses silastic implants that are designed to fill the hollows that some patients have in the temple area of their skull. During your procedure, an incision is made within the hairline to create a pocket for the implant. The implant is placed and repositioned to fill in the depression, and the incision is closed using surgical sutures.
How Long Is the Recovery Period?
Following your procedure, you may experience some temporary swelling and bruising that will subside after a few days. Your sutures will be removed approximately one week after your surgery. You will be asked to refrain from strenuous activities for two weeks, but you can proceed with light exercise after week one.
What Results Can I Expect?
You can expect a rapid and permanent improvement in the chin, cheek, and temple area following your procedure. You can also expect a youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
