Dermaplane

Fresh, glowing skin is attractive and youthful. If your skin appears dull, lifeless and has lost its fresh, youthful glow, you deserve to know more about dermaplaning – a non-chemical, non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatment.

What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning helps to refresh the skin by removing the outermost layer of dead cells and debris on the skin’s surface while also removing the soft, vellus hair often referred to as “peach fuzz.”

What are the benefits of dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning has a remarkable effect on your skin quality. It helps reduces the appearance of fine lines, improves absorption of skincare products, allows for a smoother makeup application, and gives you a more radiant glow. The procedure is performed using a specialized sterile tool that resembles a surgical scalpel to manually exfoliate the outermost layer of skin and stimulate cellular turnover. The procedure is completely painless and leaves the skin brighter, smoother and glowing.

Candidates for dermaplane treatments

  • You are not suffering an active acne breakout
  • Your skin is dry and dull
  • You have fine lines and wrinkles
  • You want to enhance skin quality without a more invasive procedure
  • You want your facial skin to be free of excess hair and peach fuzz
  • You want to significantly lighten post inflammatory scars from past acne

How is the procedure performed?

You will be resting comfortably on a treatment bed. First your skin will be cleansed and a degreaser will be applied. Next, your skin will be held taught and the blade will gently scrape back and forth across your skin at a 45-degree angle until all the dead skin and hair is removed. Serums to hydrate and improve texture will be applied as well as sunscreen. You may return to your normal regimen directly after the treatment, but keep in mind that you will probably be a little more sensitive to the products you are using since they will penetrate much more quickly.

Recovery after dermaplaning

No downtime is associated with dermaplaning, although your skin may be slightly pink, with a minor sensation related to the exfoliation. Your skin renews at three to four-week intervals and adding this treatment to your regular anti-aging regimen can help you maintain more youthful skin as skin cell renewal is triggered, with your skin looking and feeling softer, and healthier.

Dermaplaning at-a-glance

  • Procedure time: 30 to 60 minutes
  • Recovery time: None. Minor skin redness
  • Anesthesia: None needed
  • Added procedures: Chemical peels or Diamond Glow Dermalinfusion

FAQ

Is dermaplaning as effective as a chemical peel?

A chemical peel often removes more of the upper layer of skin than what is achieved with dermaplaning. The beauty of dermaplaning is that it can be used in conjunction with a chemical peel for added improvement in texture and pigment.

How should I care for my skin following dermaplaning?

Wear sunscreen every day, and treat your skin gently, avoid harsh exfoliation for 5-7 days post treatment.

Does dermaplaning cause your facial hair to grow in thicker?

Dermaplaning can be carried out every 3-4 weeks. Treating the skin in this manner removes about 2 – 3 weeks’ worth of dead skin cells. You should always leave enough time between treatments to allow the skin to complete its normal skin cycle of approximately 30 days before repeating.

How often can this procedure be done?

No – this procedure will not trigger more facial hair growth.

Can this procedure be performed if I’m pregnant?

It is a great option for clients with sensitive skin and pregnant women who are looking for a deep exfoliation.
